The Touro Law Center Journal of Race, Gender, and Ethnicity is pleased to issue this call for papers as part of their 2027 online symposium, Closing the Wealth Gap: Legal Solutions for Economic Justice. The symposium will be held over Zoom on March 18, 2027.

The Journal is seeking papers that examine the legal, social, and economic forces that shape wealth creation, economic mobility, and financial security. We welcome scholarship that explores innovative legal and policy solutions to persistent wealth disparities and the structural barriers that limit economic opportunity. Submissions may address a wide range of topics, including but not limited to: wealth inequality; racial and gender wealth gaps; employment and labor law; wage inequality; workplace discrimination; housing and homeownership; consumer protection; access to capital and entrepreneurship; banking and financial inclusion; taxation and wealth transfer; bankruptcy; education and student debt; healthcare and economic security; disability and economic justice; immigration and economic mobility; environmental justice; artificial intelligence and the future of work; the gig economy; employee benefits; retirement security; paid family and medical leave; childcare and caregiving; economic barriers facing veterans, individuals with disabilities, and formerly incarcerated persons; and federal, state, or local initiatives designed to promote economic opportunity and reduce systemic inequality.

We also encourage interdisciplinary and comparative scholarship that examines how legal institutions, public policy, and private actors influence wealth accumulation and economic justice across communities. Authors are invited to consider the ways in which race, gender, ethnicity, disability, age, immigration status, geography, and other intersecting identities shape access to economic opportunity, and the law's role in addressing these disparities.

Ultimately, we are interested in timely scholarship that explores the law's capacity to promote economic justice, expand opportunity, and foster long-term financial security. The symposium seeks to bring together legal scholars, practitioners, policymakers, economists, sociologists, business leaders, and advocates to engage in meaningful dialogue about the legal reforms necessary to build a more equitable economy.

Authors of selected papers will be invited to present at the symposium. They may also publish their work in Volume 16 of the Journal of Race, Gender, and Ethnicity – an online publication. To apply, please submit an abstract of 250–500 words no later than Friday, September 18, 2026. Completed papers should be between 5,000 and 7,500 words and are due by June 11, 2027.
