Written Symposium: Losing the Huddled Masses: Controversies in Immigration Law
Spring 2026
The Touro Law Center Journal of Race, Gender, and Ethnicity (JRGE) is pleased to invite participation in its upcoming written symposium, Losing the Huddled Masses: Controversies in Immigration Law. We anticipate articles will be published in Volume 14, Issue 2, which should be complete by Spring 2026. The symposium is inspired by the words penned by Emma Lazarus in 1883: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore,” and will examine current controversies in immigration law through both an historical and a contemporary lens.
We are seeking submissions that will primarily focus on modern developments in immigration law. We have a particular interest in looking at existing laws, as well as proposed statutes and regulations that have not been codified. These conversations might consider, among many other topics, state and federal conflicts that have arisen over time; issues around detention and removal; family separation; citizenship challenges; immigrant access to medical and mental health treatment; and more.
The Journal is largely interested in publications that are in the range of 5,000-7,500 words. If you wish to participate in the written symposium, please submit an abstract no longer than 500 words by October 31, 2025. Completed essays are due by January 30, 2026, at tlcjrge@student.touro.edu.
Please send any questions to tlcjrge@student.touro.edu.
